There are several different types of a squat. In CrossFit Kids, we focus on 3 of them – the Air Squat, the Front Squat, and the Overhead Squat. Each has their own benefits and challenges; and we will also incorporate back squats, from time to time.
This month, we are going to work on the Overhead Squat. In the words of CrossFit Founder Greg Glassman: “The overhead squat is the ultimate core exercise… and peerless in developing effective athletic movement.”
This movement is not something people do without practice as it demands flexibility, strength, balance, and is an essential component of the snatch. It is also an excellent measure of the core stability and control, and ultimately, the ability to generate effective and efficient athletic power.
